A Key milestone is just a way to identify the most important milestones for a student to focus on. An application plan can have approximately 10 milestones (Transcripts, Recommendations, FAFSA forms, CSS forms, Applications, etc.) and a student may have 10 colleges on their list. This means the student will have 100 milestones to manage, which can be overwhelming. By identifying a milestone as Key, GuidedPath handles those milestones differently to help the student stay focused on those milestones.
Key milestones will be listed in the Upcoming Task section on the lower right box of the student's dashboard. Reminders can also be sent to students to let them know an upcoming Key milestone is due. Lastly, when a Key milestone is completed, it is listed in the Activity Summary.
Key milestones are identified in two places:
- Default application plans identify Key milestones in the Organization Configuration grid. This is the template that will be used for each new application plan that is created.
- On each application plan, milestones can be selected to modify the "key" field. To update the "key" field, select a single milestone with your mouse, or select multiple milestones by using CTRL-Click or SHIFT-Click. This displays a pop-up allowing you to check the box next to "key".
